ILMEA District IX Junior Honors Orchestra Information
The Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) Honors Orchestra provides our students with an opportunity to perform with outstanding orchestra students from our region of Illinois. Students participate in an individual audition that will determine selection for this year’s honors orchestra. Individual auditions will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018, between 9:00 a.m. until approximately 2:00 p.m. Students selected to be in the Honors Orchestra will perform at the ILMEA Honors Festival on Saturday, November 10, 2018 (at Huntley High School) where the honors orchestra, band and chorus will perform. Families are encouraged to attend the 3:00 p.m. performance.
2018 Honors Orchestra Guest Conductor:
Mrs. Daryl Silberman, Waubonsie Valley High School
Orchestra Director
2018 Audition Requirements:
Students must learn all of the required scales and required pieces of concert music ahead of time and will be asked to perform selected sections from each piece at the audition. The audition spots will not be announced until the week before the audition. Therefore, students should be working to learn all of the music this spring and summer in order to be prepared for the auditions. It is highly recommended that students work with a private lesson teacher on this music because the level of music is an advanced 8th-9th grade level, and students will need guidance to learn the music properly. All violins will audition on all first violin music. This year's concert/audition music includes (click to hear a recording):
